Iran Is Our Inheritance

Iran is the home we have inherited, whose walls still hold our mother's scent. Its doors may be locked and its lights put out, but no one can erase a home from the memory of those to whom it belongs.
Iran
is our fathers' legacy;
not a deed
inside a locked safe,
but a home
where our mother's scent
still
lingers in the walls.
Its key
was taken from us,
its windows were shut,
its lights put out —
but can a tree
ever be severed
from the memory of its roots?
We
are not returning
to seize a stranger's home;
we
are returning
to our own home.
Iran
we will reclaim,
like a key
that once again
turns in the lock of its own home,
like a river
that after many years
remembers the way
to the sea.
Iran
is not one group's inheritance;
it is the home of us all.
And a home
may be shut,
but cannot be
from its owner's memory
erased.
